This'll be my first review so Maiden voyage ^^
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion takes place in an alternate reality where the American Revolution failed and Great Britain, Or Britannia, managed to conquer practically all of North America, gaining an effective one third of the world's population. Neighboring powers are the EU, or European Union, and the Chinese Federation, both of whom are at odds with the Britannian Empire. More importantly, The Britannian Empire had conquered the Island nation of Japan and renamed it Area 11.
The story revolves around an exiled prince by the name of Lelouch Vi Britannia. He masquerades as Lelouch Lamperouge and is a regular ditcher to gambling events that usually involve chess. One day, as he was coming back from winning a chess match, Lelouch was suddenly taken by Japanese terroriests (Though it was actually an accident of sorts). After a series of fighting, Lelouch wound up meeting a childhood friend of his, Kururugi Suzaku and soonafter, the 'poison gas' capsule that the terrorists had stolen opened up. However, inside was not poison gas but a strange woman. Almost immediately afterwards, Britannian special forces arrived and although Suzaku was critically wounded, Lelouch and the mysterious woman managed to escape. Their escape did not last long and soon, Lelouch found himself about to be executed. He lamented against his own powerless to do anything but just as the shot was to take place, the woman jumped in place and took the fatal wound instead. Soonafter, Lelouch received a power from the supposed dead woman. This power, Geass, was then invoked and with it, Lelouch placed an 'unbreakable' order upon the soldiers, telling them to kill themselves. The first episode ends with Lelouch feeling a dark sense of joy at finally receiving power.
What many people would notice about the series is the different art style that is accompanied with this series. The reason for this is because Sunrise had comissioned CLAMP for character designs, thus creating CLAMP style characters. The art work is beautiful and the coloring is top notched.
In voicing, the voice actors did amazing jobs with their characters. One can shiver upon hearing the deepening tones that Lelouch would use when he enters his 'Geass' state and all other characters had solid performances as well. The music used on the anime, however, was mediocre at best. First opening was perhaps the only opening that had any talent. The second was just horrible to hear. Endings were slightly better and I definitely found myself enjoying the soft song for the second ending.
The actual storyline is very compelling. While I have not actually seen the anime Death Note, I am told that Code Geass resembles it very much. It follows the concept of an anti-hero and anti-villain, leaving some to speculate just who is actually the right one and who is the wrong one. The plot itself has many twists and turns people can find themselves staring as the many different scenes unfold.
All in all, Code Geass is a definite solid hit and my rankings for it is a good 9.5/10
Only reason that is not perfect is due to the ear raping I had to endure when I heard the second opening. No joke.

Im actually watching this anime at the moment... currently downloading ep 10 hehe... anywayz i have to agree with the similarities to Death Note!! I actually thought this when i got to about ep 4. So far its awesome! Have to have my reccomendation before i get to the ending. Hopefully its a proper ending not like most anime... OMG what am i saying im always dissapointed with the endings... simply because they are endings and theres no more. Although i know theres a second season currently airing. COOL

It is a very great anime! It's one of the animes that I actually bothered finishing...It does have it's similarites to Death Note, but unlike Light, Lelouch has a concience which guides him to do many dangerous things for the sake of Nunally. But, they both do want to change the world but for different reasons. You WILL be dissapointed at the end of Code Geass Season one because they stop it right at the best part. But they fill in most of the pieces from the end of season one at the beginning of season two. Plus, it's not like most mecha animes, where they have somewhat cool mech fights, yet they have a horrible story. The action is great and the story is deep and full of plot twists in almost every episode. I could easily reccomend Code Geass to anyone. But I realllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyy hate Suzaku.
