I just finished a book called "Urban Shaman" by C.E Murphy
It's a fiction book, and it was very good. A kind of murder-mystery-esque book ... It has one of the basic plots of fiction, ignorant and stubborn female antagonist, male protagonist and magic powers that nobody wants? yay!
Hah it was very funny although a very Canadian kind of funny, more sarcasm and snappy remarks than actual jokes.
Some other really great books I read this summer (and forgive me for not knowing the Authors I am pretty far from my bookshelf haha) would be the Night World series which are three books with three separate stories in each with characters that all interlace. Um.... a good book if you like the Twilight type love stories and kind of... stubborn-ness towards love in general.
Also another fiction would be the Ugly series. Again, I don't know the author but they are a more Anti-government books where the main character Tally (I think is her name ) and her friend Shay realize a government conspiracy after running away from their homes and work towards tearing it down. Another great book in that general genre would be Barcode Tattoo where things like Credit Cards and ID's are imprinted onto the arms of people as bar-codes. Again, government involvement messes things up and the main characters need to fix it.
must read books for any fantasy fan the series Memmory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams the three books are Dragon Bonechair, Stone of Farewell and Green Angel Tower ( which comes in 2 parts for paperback) unbeliviably great story writing all of the books by Tad Williams are awesome but those three are like my favorite books, another must read is the Darksword Trilogy by Marget Wies and Tracy Hickman, i think they both wrote it at least, most of the books they write are together both series is great I know i was kinda depressed after i finished them becuase they were so good.

I would reccomend Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It is a fiction about a man who is losing his grip on sanity and commits murder. The book is the story of the murder and how it impacts him psychologically, as well as many events concerning his life and the murder. It's also a bit of a commentary on how Russia was during the time Dostoevsky lived. I don't want to give anything away, but if you decide to read it, it is definantly worthwile, especially if you've read any of his other works.
#1: Percy Jackson and the Olympians series: Award-winning and New York Times bestselling series that focuses on Percy Jackson (demigod son of Poseidon & protagonist), Annabeth Chase (demigod daughter of Athena & student of Daedalus), Grover Underwood (satyr councilor & inheritor of Pan) and Luke Castellan (betrayer of Percy, son of Hermes, true hero of the Great Prophecy, and general of Kronos). Lots of humor, great fighting scenes and good use of intellect between different scenarios.
#2: The 39 Clues series: Weeks spent #1 on the New York Times bestselling list, the series focuses on the Cahill family consisting of every famous person worldwide. Four branches divided the family: Tomas, Ekaterina, Lucian and Janus. Two, Dan & Amy Cahill, didn't know which branch they belonged to, and they set out on a race with their relatives on a hunt for 39 clues spread throughout the world. So far, they've gotten 6 clues, traveling from America to Vienna to Japan to Egypt to ... Their family members formed alliances, soon after betrayed them, and almost gotten them killed. 10 books will be published by 6 different authors: Rick Riordan, Peter Lerangis, Gordon Korman, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Part, and Margaret Peterson Haddix.
#3: The World of Giapactum series: Award-winning series by young author J.Y Cheung. Greatly adopted the customs and traditions of India and China, the protagonists fight a variety of antagonists to save the kingdom of Westmark. Loa "Rowan" Uhn, a traditional Chinese monk that has the amazing ability to utilize his eyes to see a complete 360 degrees around him. Mira Valani is a young and powerful sorceress with kindness overflowing in her feelings. This series uses magical objectives and similar to the Harry Potter series. Necromancers, gore, and heavily-action-packed battle scenes with complete and intricate details await the reader. The first book, Path of the Chosen, won three awards after it's first month of publishing.
P.S: For all of you who mentioned "dragons", I'll check out those books
The first thing that comes to my mind to recommend, Catcher in the Rye - J.D.Salinger(not clear about the author's name spelling) for its interesting writing style and a storyline that's just plain FANTASTIC.
Appetizer: Carl Sagan - Cosmos
Carl Sagan's Cosmos, tells the strory of 15 billion years of cosmic history like no one else can.
Main Course: H.P. Lovecraft - Every Tale
This man created some of the foundations of the occult we find today. Amazing what a human being can create.
Second Course: Charles Darwin - Origin of Species and Richard Dawkin - The God Delusion
These two books are boring if you aren't interested. The Origin of Species is a extraordinary book that got me a A+ at biology . The God Delusion on the other hand explores the religious world and it's flaws.
Desert: "Mad Arab" Abdul Alhazred - Necronomicon
Read this book at your own risk. This book almost made me go insane. It's a wonderful depiction of fiction and magic.
Made my imagination run rampant. Do not let a child read this no matter what! It's more dangerous than cartoons...
I like science and the occult.
