Need a new book to read and want a suggestion?

Read a book that you'd recommend to others?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd recommend a ton right now, but I'll leave room for those who need a recommendation first.

You might want to add a little bit about what it's about, whether it's fiction, non-fiction, etc...

Sabriel by Garth Nix

It's a fiction book.

It centers around a young girl who can sense Death and is destined to take over her father's work as the Abhorsen (a sort of warrior against the dead). The book has a very in depth world in which it is placed.

There are sequels to the book.

i just got back from Borders Book Store with a book called "Magic Lost, Trouble Found" by Lisa Shearin
It looks good, but i will need to read a bit farther before i recommend it

heres what i got from the cover of the book and a couple online reviews. Fantasy book focused around a girl with attitude and decent magical powers. She is a "Seeker" who gets hired to looks for things of whatever nature, until one day she finds an all-powerful amulet.

Tough girl + super stone = trouble

like i said, ill try to get back to you on the actual quality

I don't think I have ever read a book that was non-fiction, unless required by school. If anyone is LOOKING for a good fantasy fiction or sci fi to read... just tell me the kinds of things you like, and I can recommend a series/book that'll fit. Seriously...from werecats, to mermaids, to genetically engineered lizards-come-dragons, to talking pigs that are really dragons but can turn into men. I **** you not. Oh, and Sabriel IS a really good book. Oh, did I mention the magical telepathic horses? Can't forget those...lol

Well then ill recommend some of my favorite series:

The Dark is Rising (series) by Susan Cooper: it is a childrens novel series but one of my favorites. Action/Fantasy/Mystery. Consists of 5 books, Over Sea Under Stone, The Dark is Rising, Greenwitch, The Grey King, and Silver on the Tree. Its a decently easy read. They arent long, maybe 200-300 pages each. There was a movie adaption of the first book that was called The Seeker. But dont worry, the movie was VERY different. It kept the characters and minor parts of the storyline, but thats about it.

Dune (series) by Frank Herbert (and later his son): Action/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Politics/War/Religion. One of the most well known science fiction series in the world. One of the most entertaining series ive ever read. I could never put it down. The first five books are by Frank Herbert, the next 3 are by his son. There are also alot of other books that explain backstory and family houses and many other related sotries. these books, i would say, are not an easy read. Some fo them are quite long. Most are in between 400-600 pages.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: To say the least, my favorite series of books ever written, by my favorite author nonetheless. Sci-fi/Comedy/Adventure. There are currently five books in the series. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life The Universe and Everything, So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, and Mostly Harmless. The ending to the final book isnt very good because he died while it was being written. Eoin Colfer (author of the Artemis Fowl series) has been given the right to continue this series. A sixth installment is set to come out in October of this year (2009).

Well thats about it for now, i have many others i would recommend, but i believe i already have made this post very long. If you would like any more feel free to ask! (I like to read, obviously, lol)
