Lol might as well bring this up, I'm on the second book right now.. and I'm surprised that there a lot more differences between the book and the movie then I thought there would be.. The book is a lot more detailed about things and has fewer battles then the movie (I guess the movie would have gotten kinda boring considering the lack of "action" and the length of the movie) it kinda sucks though.. since I know the main events... to the few people who haven't watched the movie I suggest reading the book first

Chrono 100% agreement there, I prefer the books myself, after you finish the lord of the rings read similarion, It's a collection of elvish legends really good gives you more backstory to the world that Toilken made, But I miss the fact they didnt include Tom Bombadil in the movies, I thought he was an awesome character heh.

yeah i wish i would have read the books before i watched the movie. Now whenever i try to read the books i get bored with his excellent discriptions. I mean they are great but they take like 2 pages to describe them riding horses on a field and compared to already have watched the movie i already have that idea in my head and yeah, I get bored then.

Umm, trust me the book would be a huge turn off for most people. The book is like beyond advance reading and most people would be going: "OMG!" "LIES!!!!" "MY EYES!!!" "NUUUUU!!!!" "NOT MY EYES!!!!" "ANYTHING BUT MY EYES!!!!"

I once read Book 1 of the Lotr trilogy and I stopped halfway through the end because I got tired of reading

but there are some interesting parts in the book that weren't put in the movie

I thought the books were much better than the movies and reading the Hobbit really helps get the view point of how Bilbo Baggins got a hold of the ring in the first place.

I'm currently reading the books.

Actually, I have all three books with a special foreword by Tolkien himself.

It's a one volume edition, which means that all three books are put together one giant book!

It's pretty interesting, albeit I saw the movie(s) before the book.

But the books are ALWAYS better.
