This tutorial is for Photoshop only. I may make these same lessons in GIMP if I install it later on.
Coloring can make or break a sig. If you have really good colors that compliment a sig, it will be better, but if you have bad colors, any pro sig can look horrible. In this tutorial, you will make a sig that is NOT meant to be used, but the important thing is that you learn how to color a sig.
Save multiple times during your sig making ALWAYS, just in case Photoshop freezes.
This tutorial will not tell you what I did in steps, but rather different methods used for coloring.
If a sig just needs a slight touch up, you can use a photofilter. I will let you experiment with what looks good, but you can find photofilters here.
If a sig needs new colors, you can use a gradient map. Choose two different colors for your foreground and background colors and go here. You should set these layers on different blending modes and opacities depending on the colors. Experiment with the colors and blending modes.
One of my favorite things to do is to do a gradient map with black and white, set it to multiply, and lower the opacity. Here is the outcome of that with the Yoshi sig we made earlier.
Another one of my favorite things to do is to make a new layer, fill it with yellow, set it to multiply, and lower the opacity. This only works with some sigs that you want to be pretty monotone. Here is the outcome on our Yoshi sig.
One REALLY good tool to use is the brightness/contrast. Just play around with it, its settings depend COMPLETELY upon your already made sig.
This about covers coloring on sigs, here is my favorite outcome, using photofilters, gradient maps, and brightness/contrast.
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE IT RIGHT NOW AS A .PSD
FOR THE NEXT STEP, LOOK AT SINX'S GFX LESSON NO. 3, or you will be missing an important step.
YAY you are done with my fourth tutorial.
~Thank you.
You can PM me to request that I do a tutorial as well.
