This tutorial is for Photoshop only. I may make these same lessons in GIMP if I install it later on.
Since SinX started some lessons on the little finishing ups, I decided that I should make my own lesson on smudging. I have read many tutorials on smudging, but none have actually said what you need to know about it. In this tutorial, you will make a sig that is NOT meant to be used, but the important thing is that you learn how to smudge.
Save multiple times during your sig making ALWAYS, just in case Photoshop freezes (which it seems to do a LOT during smudging)
This tutorial will assume that you have NO previous experience with smudging or the smudge tool, but extreme basics.
Step One: Open up a new canvas any size you want, I will be using 350 x 120.
Step Two: Paste your render in and place it, but DO NOT resize. RENDER:

Step Three: Select your smudge tool.
Step Four: Go to the brushes tab in the top right of your photoshop and put in these settings. (Experiment with your brush tip shape and other settings to see what looks the best)
Step Five: Change your strength to 77 (or something around there) and make sure the rest of the settings look like this. (Play around with this step when you are making your sigs)
Step Six: Click and drag around your image to make a cool effect. (Note: if you are doing this and nothing is happening, make sure you are on the right layer)
Step Seven (optional): Sometimes you can make your smudging look better by going to filter > sharpen > sharpen.
Step Eight: Paste your render in again, but this time resize and place however you want it.
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE IT RIGHT NOW AS A .PSD
Look for number two, it will teach you how to continue on this sig.
YAY you are done with my first tutorial.
~Thank you.
You can PM me to request that I do a tutorial as well.
