I'm back from my trip from the Philippines lol.
Genre:
Adventure / Fantasy / Mecha / Romance
Kanzaki Hitomi is a normal high school student with the normal love interests and is an active track girl. She is torn when she figured out her crush, Amano, is leaving out of the country and makes a deal with him that if she can beat her original track record then she will receive a kiss from him. Before she tries to conquer her feat, a beam of massive light flashes down onto the ground and a dragon appears along with a boy named Van Fanael...
I give this
***** Stars
After I watched this anime a few years back, I have to say that whenever I question or criticize other anime this is the anime I use as a base/control. Why? It beautifully creates a unique plot that involves fantasy and mecha, has good balance between drama and comedy, and usually I cannot find a good anime like that. Once the ride was over, of course I wanted more of it but I felt that the story stopped at the right time. This means that Ecaflowne can straight forwardly tell a good story in 26 episodes comparing to other anime companies that struggle with 51 episodes.
As the story started, I did not like Hitomi because of her internal struggles but when the anime progresses I liked how she became more aware of others as well as herself. Likewise, there are different progressions in the other characters.
The creativity of having mechas intertwining with a fantasy story was splendid. It wasn't an age old european gundam anime that I thought it was going to be, but it was so unique that I just had to say that Escaflowne resembles Escaflowne.
Hmm, I'm getting sleepy because I'm not use to California time right now so I'll just leave it at that!
I'm a mean girl FUELED BY RAMEN!
