Curse of the Black Pearl, in my point of view, is judged by the acting, not by storyline. Place yourself in Johnny Depp's spot, and you'll know what a Frenchman-sent-to-act-in-a-Caribbean-movie is like.
National Treasure series, on the other hand, I judged basing on how the characters and the actors influence the excitement of the audience. Let's take the "whiskey-detained" scene from Book of Secrets. Can you do what Nicholas Cage did ? No.
So, taking that into account, I am a picky person when watching movies. I don't judge on storyline, rather on how the characters evolve as the plot expands.
