only one of my friends watches anime with me. T^T my other friends don't really watch anime, but they do like my anime drawings, at least my parents used to always make fun of me for watching "cartoons", until they actually sat down and watched with me. now they say there's too much violence and swearing, so they won't let me watch anywhere but my room, with the door shut. T^T

Lol I've kept my anime-watching habits a secret for a good 5 years now. Not that I feel guilty about it. I'm a casual watcher, and I like to think that it's just another form of entertainment. I just don't like it when people give me disapproving/critical/what-a-geek look. My sister also watches, so that's some comfort.
In an earlier part of these 5 years, I tried explaining the value of watching anime to my friends, and they just sort of nod halfheartedly. Not encouraging. So I stopped trying and now, I don't think anyone knows I still watch anime. It's like my secret hobby. Very few people around me know what it is anyway; I'd be surprised if the next person I talked to knew what it was.
My dad is pretty cool with it but he just dismisses it as something I'm interested in, and that can't possibly have anything to do with him. My mom on the other hand is totally blunt about her disapproval. She says: "Is that supposed to be a person? What's with their eyes? They look like bugs. It's probably because a lot of Japanese people have small eyes." Harsh.

My sister is ok with what I watch, she feels that as long as I'm enjoying myself, then I can continue. But she won't let it slip if she hears me saying rude things in japanese.
My brother and I always talk about anime and video games, so no one really says anything other than "You two really are alike"
My dad doesn't mind, but he likes to annoy me with a mock japanese accent. I just laugh it off
My mom is fine with it, she knows im mature enough and my morals are clear. Blood, partially nude, she is fine with it actually. Curfew is the only issue here XD, but she finds that me learning japanese from anime is rather helpful.
my friends and I (both from the philippines to america) always get into discussions about anime (ranging from casual chatting, to a laughing storm of hillarity, to a full blown debate/arguement)
And then there are some of my classmates who catch me reading Negima...they try to strike up a conversation with me about anime and manga instead of the other way around.

I really don't see why some people thinks that watching anime is weird. She says: "Is that supposed to be a person? What's with their eyes? They look like bugs. It's probably because a lot of Japanese people have small eyes." Harsh.
lol. Really harsh, but the eyes are huge(most of them anyway)

Maybe its not that most japanese have small eyes (many around our ages are beginning to have slightly bigger eyes) but that when they use larger eyes, more emotions can be expressed or its beautiful, what with the colors? two examples, one for each category: Beserk Rena (from Higurashi no Kokoro ni) for emotion and the eye style of Kyoto Animation for beauty (i.e. Haruhi, Air, Clannad, Kanon) to make this post viable, the only people that don't approve of me watching anime is my grandad...he thinks its childish and I should watch wrestling instead.

Some of my friends also commented that anime are the "kid stuff"..... I only said that you must watch one good anime first before you can say that..... Is Death Note kid stuff? Definitely not.... I was always enraged when some one said me that.... Maybe the animes that they know are those good-for-nothing ones that they keep commenting that animes are rubbish and "kid stuff"......

to make this post viable, the only people that don\'t approve of me watching anime is my grandad...he thinks its childish and I should watch wrestling instead. My folks criticize wrestling that much (WWE, RAW, etc etc..) .... They said that, it\'s fake and that it is directed... Well I already knew that, SO WHAT? Isn\'t the ones they also loved to watch is fake and directed?

I've been made fun alot for watching anime so I don't really tell other people... My parents don't really comment on it, so if they see me watching it they just ask me what I'm watching and then the just say "Oh" *walks away*.. I have two friends that watch anime though one only watches Naruto and I can't seem to get him to try watching some others... The other watches alot of them . Posted on: February 25, 2008, 04:17 pm
he'd prefer you to watch wrestling? O.o

Everyone in my family are fine with anime. In fact, I regularly watch anime with my brother (mecha lover lol, but the last thing we watched was Kanon 2006... try and work that one out!) and occasionally my dad watches them, too. He was the one who got me into anime in the first place! My mum knows I'm sensible enough to not copy anything violent, so she doesn't really care. I've got a few friends who like anime, too. Actually, I don't think I've met anyone who really objects to anime. Admittedly, I'm not too social, but still... I must be lucky! *first post, btw, nice to meet you all!*

Why is the ground on the celing?

Only my mom seems to be bothered by it. Probably cause whenever she walks in my room, it's at the worst possible time. The...fan service scene, (not sure what to call it, maybe perverted) will be playing on my computer. So she thinks that all anime girls are "hoochi-mama's" (in her words), I still laugh but it's getting harder to watch it when she keeps barging in...

Every time you bother, an angel gets its wings. If you bother again, that same angel becomes a stripper.
If you bother enough to be mildly amusing, you might get your very own one-and-a-half-seasons-long sitcom on Fox.

I laugh at all the closet anime watchers ha! Sorry in all seriousness here, most of you seem to be still at home so I'm guessing high School Students still, It gets better seriously much better! I have some friends who watch anime's of all types, others that just watch the comedic ones, and one who likes all the martial arts ones (He thinks he's the reincarnation of Bruce lee ) So I don't get much in the way of bad reactions to the anime's I watch A couple of girls I've dated have looked at me wierd then you just get them to watch some of the Romance comedy's and they usally come around, most of the nay sayers and the ones that go "WTF cartoons! Aren't you too old for cartoons!" are usally ignorant buggers who wouldn't try something new if there lives depended on it. Most people will generally find at least one thing they can say thats nice about Anime's. My grandmother who is 80, retired and concentrates on her art, apperciates the artwork behind the drawings and has immitated some of it into her own works. Thats my uh... 400 cents i think.
